On Tristan da Cunha, knitting remains part of island life, with Islanders creating warm, practical pieces by hand for life in the South Atlantic.
These woollen hats are hand knitted from imported wool by members of the island community, with designs ranging from simple plain knits and colourful stripes to Fair Isle patterns and cheerful penguin themes. Each handmade hat reflects the care and skill of the person who knitted it.
Designs and colours vary, and as each hat is individually made, there may be slight differences between pieces. If you have a particular design in mind, please contact tourism@tdc-gov.com and we will do our best to help where possible.
